Major Space Related Activities for the Week

  • The Biden White House is expected to submit its budget proposal for the 2024 federal fiscal year, which begins on October 1, to Congress on Thursday.
  • NASA’s Crew-5 mission flyers, NASA’s Nicole Mann and Josh Cassada; Russian cosmonaut Anna Kikina and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Koichi Wakata, are expected to depart the International Space Station (ISS) this week, potentially on Thursday, for a parachute-assisted splashdown in the ocean waters off the Florida Peninsula to end a mission that began with an October 5 launch.
  • SpaceX’s 27th NASA-contracted resupply mission launch to the ISS is planned to lift off no earlier than Friday. But like the return of Crew-5 it’s dependent on the weather outlook and scheduling issues.
  • The American Astronautical Society’s (AAS) annual Robert H. Goddard Memorial Symposium is scheduled for Wednesday through Friday in Laurel, Maryland. The 2023 International IEEE Aerospace Conference began Saturday and continues through this week in Big Sky, Montana.
  • Japan is planning to make a second attempt to launch its new H3 rocket from Tanegashima Monday evening, US time.
  • Relativity Space is planning the initial launch of its Terran-1 3-D printed rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Wednesday, with live stream viewing available.
