NASA and the World Science Festival Host a Tweetup in the Big Apple
NASA and the World Science Festival invite Twitter followers to a behind-the scenes Tweetup at 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday, June 5 at the World Science Festival in New York City. Now in its third year, the festival will feature 40 unique programs in scientific disciplines ranging from astronomy, physics and genetics to neuroscience, robotics and mathematics.

The Tweetup will give 100 Twitter users the opportunity to speak with World Science Festival co-founder Brian Greene, Nobel-prize winning NASA astrophysicist John C. Mather, and astronaut Leland Melvin, @Astro_Flow. It will include a “meet and greet” session to allow participants to mingle with fellow tweeps and the staff behind @NASA and @WorldSciFest.

What is a Tweetup?
A Tweetup is an informal meeting of people who use the social messaging medium Twitter.

How do I register?
Registration opens at 10 a.m. EDT on Friday, May 21, on this page and will remain open until 10 a.m. EDT Monday, May 24. NASA and the World Science Festival will randomly select 100 tweeps to attend from those who sign up on the Web. Additional registrants will be placed on a waiting list.

Limit one entry per person. In the case of multiple entries for the same individual, only the first entry received will be considered. Registration is for one person (you) and is non-transferrable.

Do I need to have a Twitter account to register?
Yes. This event is designed for Twitter users who follow @WorldSciFest, @NASA and other NASA Twitter accounts. The goal is to allow people who regularly interact with each other via Twitter to meet in person and discuss their favorite subjects: space, science and space science.

What are the registration requirements?
Registration indicates your intent to travel to the World Science Festival in New York City and attend the event in person. You are responsible for your own expenses for travel, accommodation, food and other amenities.

To be admitted, you will need to show a government-issued identification (driver’s license or passport) that matches the name provided for your registration. Those without proper identification cannot be admitted. All registrants must be at least 18 years old.

Can I register if I am not a U.S. citizen?
Yes, non-U.S. citizens may register to attend the Tweetup.

Does my registration include a guest?
Because of space limitations, you may not bring a guest. Each registration provides a place for one person only. Each individual wishing to attend must register separately.

What if I cannot come to New York?
If you cannot come to the World Science Festival to attend in person, you cannot register for the Tweetup. However, you can still plan to follow along with the event on Twitter via the hashtags #NASATweetup, #WorldSciFest and #WSF.

If you can’t make this Tweetup, don’t despair; NASA is planning others in the future at various agency locations.

When will I know if I made it?
After NASA has received and processed the registrations, an e-mail with confirmation information and additional instructions will be sent to those selected and those on the waitlist. We expect to send notifications by May 25.
