COALITION FOR DEEP SPACE EXPLORATION MEMBERS JOIN PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT FOR RELAUNCH OF NATIONAL SPACE COUNCIL
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Members and leadership of the Coalition for Deep Space Exploration (Coalition) were honored to participate in today’s signing ceremony of the Executive Order re-instituting the National Space Council. The Executive Order was signed by President Donald J. Trump with Vice President Mike Pence in attendance, as well as key Congressional space leaders, including Rep. Lamar Smith, Chairman of the Science, Space and Technology Committee, Rep. Brian Babin, Chairman of the Space Subcommittee, Rep. John Culberson, Chairman of the Commerce-Justice-Science Appropriations Subcommittee, among other Members of Congress, Cabinet officials, industry association leaders and NASA astronauts.
“The re-institution of the National Space Council is another important step in solidifying our nation’s continued commitment to NASA’s deep space exploration program,” said Dr. Dittmar, president and CEO of the Coalition. “We’re pleased that the President and Vice President invited small business manufacturers that are suppliers to our nation’s exploration programs, such as AMRO Fabricating Corporation, Futuramic Tool & Engineering Company and Cain Tubular Products, who represent a large community of suppliers who support the intricate production of the nation’s space program. These programs are critical to our 50-state supplier network, our national industrial base innovation and manufacturing job creation in so many communities across the country.”
President and CEO of the Coalition, Dr. Mary Lynne Dittmar attended in the ceremony along with many Coalition member companies supporting our nation’s deep space exploration and low Earth orbit programs, including The Boeing Company represented by CEO Dennis Muilenburg; Lockheed Martin Corporation represented by CEO Marillyn A. Hewson; Orbital ATK represented by John Steinmeyer, director of business development, Launch Vehicle Division; United Launch Alliance represented by CEO Salvatore T. Bruno; AMRO Fabricating Corporation represented by CEO Mike Riley and President John Hammond; Futuramic Tool & Engineering Company represented by Vice President John Couch; and Cain Tubular Products represented by Owner Mike Cain.
Based on the Executive Order, Vice President Pence will chair the council to ensure that all aspects of the President’s agenda for space are fully integrated and coordinated to best serve the country. It would also establish an advisory for companies across the space industry to provide input and advice to the Council. Today’s Executive Order follows the release of the FY 2018 Commerce-Justice-Science Appropriations bill yesterday by the House Appropriations Committee which was approved by voice vote in the subcommittee as well. Overall, the bill would provide more than a $200 million increase for NASA ($19.9 billion).
