Thursday’s CSExtra offers the latest reporting and commentary on space related activities. NASA’s MESSENGER spacecraft prepares to maneuver into orbit around Mercury on Thursday. NASA astronaut Scott Kelly returns to Earth from the International Space Station with a show of support for his sister-in-law, Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Giffords is recovering from a gun shot wounded suffered during a shooting spree at a Tucson political rally in early January. An asteroid comes close to the Earth. State lawmakers in Texas and Florida take action to support the aerospace industry.

In a photograph, Kelly is wearing a support bracelet for Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona Congresswoman who is married to Scott’s twin brother, Mark Kelly. Giffords was seriously injured in early January by a gunshot wound at a Tucson political rally.
