Sunday’s CSExtra features bi-coastal perspectives on NASA, following the flurry of legislative activity in the Senate last week that appears to have established a blue print for NASA’s future that is acceptable to Congress and the White House.

1. From the Los Angeles Times: The newspaper takes measure of NASA and the fate of its Constellation Program.  “The space program has never been in as much disarray as it is now,” one policy analyst tells the LA Times.  Though facing cancellation, Constellation employs 14,000 workers, and spends $9 million a day, as Congress and the White House hammer out a new road map. Is NASA about jobs or bold exploration?http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-nasa-future-20100718,0,5685731,full.story

A. From Florida Today: Columnist John Kelly examines a pair of recent issues. Why did the White House first back NASA Administrator Charles Bolden’s remarks about working with Muslim nations, then distance itself?  Is the NASA authorization bill adopted by the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee last week a bid to re-instate the Constellation program, and if so, does that constitute only short term gain for Florida’s fragile economy?

2. From the New York Times: Columnist Nicholas Kristof examines the effects of a global temperature rise on the world’s glaciers. Kristof makes mention of NASA climate data.
