WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 9) – The Members of the Coalition for Deep Space Exploration (CDSE) join the nation in celebrating the announcement of the Artemis III crew. As Mission Commander Col. Randy Bresnik (USMC-Ret.), Pilot Col. Luca Parmitano (Italian Air Force), Mission Specialist Col. Frank Rubio (U.S. Army), Mission Specialist Andre Douglas (Ph.D.), and Backup Crewmember Col. Bob Hines (USAF) prepare for this crucial mission, they take a critical step toward a sustained human presence on the Moon.
“The announcement of the Artemis III crew by NASA is the next positive step on our path to return to the Moon,” said CDSE President and CEO Allen Cutler. “The Space Launch System rocket and Orion crew capsule will be ready for assembly by the Exploration Ground Systems at Kennedy Space Center when NASA gives industry the ‘go’ signal. Once the lunar lander providers complete their work, a launch to Low Earth Orbit becomes possible as early as 2027.”
The vital hardware for Artemis III has begun arriving at Kennedy Space Center ahead of launch preparations, with the core stage arriving in April and the boosters arriving just yesterday, marking significant milestones in the mission’s progress.
Building on the historic success of Artemis II, the Artemis III mission marks a vital next step in our nation’s lunar ambitions. Through the close collaboration between NASA and its industry partners, this mission will further advance the technological capabilities required to return humanity to the Moon.
