Coalition for Deep Space Exploration Names Allen Cutler as President and CEO

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Coalition for Deep Space Exploration (CDSE) is excited to announce that Allen Cutler, a Capitol Hill veteran with over 25 years of experience in space policy, programs, and budget analysis, has been named President and CEO, effective March 20, 2023.

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead the Coalition as the country continues advancing its goal of exploring the Moon, with an eye toward effectively advocating for policies and resources that will help achieve this mission,” Cutler said. “In order for the U.S. to remain the leader in space exploration, industry and government must work together to utilize the many strengths and resources of our nation to further develop human exploration and help inspire the next generation of explorers.”

Cutler comes to CDSE after serving more than 20 years on the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations. During that time he was responsible for drafting legislation and oversight of annual appropriations for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Space Council, the National Science Foundation (NSF), the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Bureau of the Census at the Department of Commerce (DOC).

Prior to working on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Cutler was with the U.S. Senate Budget Committee for five years serving as a budget analyst covering NASA, NSF, and the Office of Science at the Department of Energy (DOE). He has a baccalaureate degree in Political Science and Statistics from Brigham Young University, a Master of Public Administration from the George Washington University, and is currently a Senior Stennis Congressional Fellow.

“Allen’s experience with all of the actors involved with space exploration, from NASA to Congress to industry, will be a tremendous asset for the Coalition,” said CDSE Board Member and Interim President and CEO Andrew Allen. “His depth of understanding will only further advance our advocacy for a robust U.S. human space exploration program. His understanding of space policy and program execution in the federal and legislative arenas will be important to assure America’s continued space leadership.”
