A heat dome caused soaring temperatures in the U.S. last weekend, breaking records in Montana, Wyoming & Utah.

Heat domes put the brakes on convection and suppress clouds and precipitation. This allows more sunlight to reach Earth’s surface making it even hotter.

It combines satellite observations with temperatures predicted by the @NASAGoddard GEOS model, which uses mathematical equations to represent physical processes in the atmosphere.
