Just down from space to Earth ground control: Images of some of the largest clouds that cameras on the Cassini spacecraft have yet seen on Titan!

According to Carolyn Porco, Cassini Imaging Team Leader and Director of the Cassini Imaging Central Laboratory for Operations (CICLOPS) at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado:

“The fact that we see them in the equatorial region is big news and may signify seasonal change is underway!”

Raw, unprocessed imagery of Titan was taken by Cassini’s camera system as it pointed toward this moon of Saturn using filters. The image has not yet been validated or calibrated, but provides an interesting take on Titan.

The Cassini Equinox Mission is a joint United States and European endeavor.

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C.

The Cassini orbiter was designed, developed and assembled at JPL. The imaging team consists of scientists from the US, England, France, and Germany.
