An extraordinary and must-see You Tube video is Ascent, a 45-minute tour-de-force that brings to sharp focus the intricacies of a shuttle liftoff.

Created at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, the video was produced by space agency aerospace engineer, Matt Melis.

Ascent is a compilation of “best of the best” film and video that documents the remarkable aspects of a space shuttle launch, rendered in the highest definition possible. The video also serves as a visual tribute to the dozens of men and women of the Shuttle imaging team and a salute to the space shuttle program’s 30 years of achievement.

“The film speaks volumes,” Melis explains.

In his off camera commentary, Melis notes that this imagery is highly inspirational and offers educational insight to those outside the NASA family. Also providing comment on the role of some 125 cameras that capture engineering detail of a shuttle liftoff is Kevin Burke of NASA’s Glenn Research Center.

Prepare to be impressed, educated…and wowed.
