  • A headline this week is Wednesday’s total solar eclipse, of possible special interest to those in Greenland, Iceland, Portugal and Spain where it can be observed in totality. A partial solar eclipse will also be visible to those in the northern region of North America. Both the European Space Agency and NASA plan to provide live coverage on multiple virtual platforms for those who cannot view the eclipse in person.
  • A NASA ISS spacewalk planned initially for Thursday and the second of three planned for this month, has been postponed until August 18 to check out a space suit CO2 sensor concern.
  • The U.S. House and Senate are in recess except for pro forma sessions. Still in work is agreement on a continuing resolution (CR) that would prevent a government shutdown if the House and Senate are not able to complete work on a budget for the 2027 federal fiscal year that begins October 1. The Senate version CR would extend government operations until December 11, the current House version until December 4.
