Major Space Related Activities for the Week
- NASA and Boeing are co-hosting a news briefing on Monday at 2 p.m. EDT, with updates on plans for the Crew Flight Test of the company’s CST-100 Starliner to the International Space Station (ISS) with two NASA astronauts. On June 1, plans for the launch and round trip to the ISS were delayed indefinitely to address technical issues.
- On Tuesday, NASA will host an update on the Artemis II mission that is to launch four NASA and Canadian Space Agency astronauts on a 10-day mission around the Moon in late 2024. The Artemis II briefing is planned for 2 p.m. EDT. Both the Boeing Starliner update, and Artemis II status briefings will be streamed over www.nasa.gov/nasalive. The Artemis II update will also air on NASA TV.
- A Russian spacewalk from the ISS is planned for Wednesday starting at 10:15 a.m. EDT, and it will be televised and streamed by NASA as well.
- Virgin Galactic’s second commercial spaceflight is set for Thursday from Spaceport America in New Mexico. The company plans to stream the flight activities beginning at 11 a.m. EDT.
- There’s also anticipation that on Thursday, U.S. time, Russia could launch its Luna 25 Moon lander mission. Luna 25 could then land at the Moon in late August between India’s Chandrayaan-3 Moon landing on August 23 and Japan’s SLIM lander mission landing on August 26.
- The 37th Small Satellite Conference that got underway Saturday at Utah State University will run through Thursday.
