The Coalition for Deep Space Exploration Congratulates Bill Nelson on Senate Confirmation as NASA Administrator
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Coalition for Deep Space Exploration (Coalition) congratulates Bill Nelson on his unanimous Senate confirmation today as the 14th NASA Administrator.
“Throughout his service and leadership in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, Bill Nelson was a tireless advocate for NASA and the entire space industry. He has been a part of every major policy decision on human exploration, science, and space technology for four decades,” said Coalition Acting President and CEO Andrew Allen. “We are eager to work with Administrator Nelson and to support NASA to advance American leadership in space.”
As a key author or co-sponsor of many space-related bills in the House and Senate, including the Commercial Space Launch Act, the Commercial Space Launch Competitiveness Act, and numerous NASA Authorization Acts, Nelson has been one of the most influential legislators on space policy of the last 40 years. The bipartisan 2010 NASA Authorization that he authored, which passed the Senate unanimously, laid the groundwork for the successful human spaceflight and science programs of the last 10 years. The systems that have been developed pursuant to that law provide the building blocks of today’s Artemis program to return humans to the Moon.
While serving in the House of Representatives, Nelson had the opportunity to travel into space on the Columbia STS-61C mission. Nelson’s experience as an astronaut and passion for space make him a powerful advocate for our nation’s most important civil space programs.
