The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Rosetta spacecraft has provided an excellent close-up view of  the asteroid 21 Lutetia.

Scientists are excited about the spacecraft flyby – pushing forward on asteroid research.

“This is a historic day,” said ESA Director of Science and Robotic Exploration, David Southwood. “Everything worked like clockwork.”

Scientists say they are flabbergasted by what they see: it’s the discovery of a new world, gigantic, never seen before, very old with more irregularities than expected and a surprinsigly very large crater!
