Saturday’s CSExtra finds a change to the proposed 2011 budget that would shift money from NASA to assist the Florida with economic development as the shuttle retires. In Huntsville, Constellation Program related lay offs are in the works. This weekend, NASA’s Cassini spacecraft will make a close pass of Saturn’s moon Titan.

1. From Space News: President Obama changes his 2011 budget request to take $100 million from NASA and move it to the Commerce and Labor departments to spur economic development in Florida as the shuttle retires. The money will come from NASA’s exploration systems division.

2. From Spaceflightnow.com: NASA’s Cassini probe, which has been circling Saturn since 2004, will dip into the atmosphere of the Earth-like moon Titan for the first time on Sunday. The risky maneuver may reveal whether Saturn’s largest moon has a magnetic field of its own.

3. From Sky and Telescope: The magazine looks at the many prospective planets discovered by NASA’s Kepler mission. It appears small planets far outnumber large planets — the type that has dominated past exo-planet discoveries.

5. From the Washington Post: In 2003 NASA and the CIA harbored concerns that terrorists might attack the shuttle Columbia, whose crew included an astronaut from Israel. The concern is part of a new book by a former CIA agent.
