On this day in 2006, STS-116 launched from Cape Canaveral to the International Space Station.
STS-116 aboard the space shuttle Discovery brought numerous structural enhancements to the station, including the P5 truss segment, a SPACEHAB module and components for a major rewiring of the station’s electrical system.
STS-116 was also notable in that it included the first Swedish astronaut– Christer Fuglesang. This mission brought the ISS one step closer to completion, and continued a legacy of construction excellence in space.
