Bayonet & Saber, of Fort Benning, GA (8/19): Apollo astronaut Tom Stafford urges perseverance during periods of uncertainty with speaking engagement at installation’s Global Leader Speaker Program. “It’s your attitude, not your aptitude, that will help you achieve the greatest altitude in your career and your life,” the former Apollo 10 commander told his audience. “… The attitude to do the best job you possibly can is key.”

Moscow Times (8/19): U.S. and Russia remain steadfast partners in the International Space Station despite tensions between Washington and Moscow over the Ukraine, according to Vladimir Solovyev, the Federal Space Agency’s head of the Russian segment of the space station.
Fresh swag and new toys: Russian cosmonauts gear up for space
Moscow Times (8/19): Russia’s space program is ready for a new generation of spacesuits. Some of the newer features of the suit, the Orlan MKS, include automated environmental control systems, allowing the cosmonaut to focus on work rather than on the air conditioning, as well as polyurethane seals to increase the service life of the suits.
Rats in spaaace! NASA wants to put rodents on Space Station
Space.com (8/19): Rodent test subjects may take flight to the six person International Space Station later this year. Rodent stays could vary from 30 to 90 days. Two weeks is the previous standard for rodents in space.

Collectspace.com (8/19): Canadian Space Agency astronaut Chris Hadfield’s down-to-Earth book, An Astronauts Guide to Life on Earth, becomes basis for ABC sitcom pilot. Hadfield was the first from his country to command the International Space Station.
Russia reignites its rocket industry with new Angara booster
Space.com (8/19): New post-Soviet era Angara rocket family begins long awaited demonstration flights. Heaviest version may emerge as a replacement for Russia’s long lived but troubled Proton.
