George Torres is vice president of Communications for ATK’s Aerospace Group, a $1.3 billion business in widely diverse businesses such as space launch vehicles, satellites, defense products, and commercial and military aircraft. In this capacity, he is responsible for media relations, advertising, employee communications and community relations. He joined ATK in January 2006.
Torres has broad experience in communications across the aerospace industry, and previously led communications organizations at Rockwell International, Boeing, Hughes Space and Communications Company, and The Aerospace Corporation.
In addition, Torres is the author of two books on the space program – Space Shuttle: The Quest Continues and Space Shuttle: A Quantum Leap. These books span the space program from its beginnings through the future.
They covered a comprehensive swath including: human spaceflight (from Mercury/Gemini/Apollo, through the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station), planetary exploration, space-based astronomy, satellite applications, military space and future human exploration of the moon and Mars. He received the Journalism Award of Excellence from the Aviation/Space Writers Association for these writing efforts.
He also served in the U.S. Army’s 4th Military Intelligence organization, and received the Army’s American Spirit Honor Award for Leadership.
A native of New York City, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Business and an MBA, both from California State University, Long Beach.
