Bobak Ferdowsi, the NASA flight controller who earned an enthusiastic youthful following during the Aug. 6 landing of NASA’s Mars Curiosity rover, will host the NASA-sponsored Third Rock  radio broadcast on Thursday at 4 p.m., EDT.

“I never thought I’d be hosting a radio show,” Ferdowsi said. “Landing a rover on Mars rocks, and so does this music!”

Ferdowsi, an aerospace engineer, gained attention during the drama surrounding NASA’s live broadcast of Curiosity’s landing in Gale Crater on Mars with his star-spanged Mohawk hairstyle.

Ferdowski, who holds a graduate degree in his field from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will talk about the Curiosity landing as well as a renewed national interest in science and education that followed, according to a NASA statement.

Third Rock Radio, which counts astronauts and engineers among its previous guests, is produced under a NASA Space Act Agreement with RFC Media of Houston, Tex.

The program was created to help cultivate new interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics among young Americans.

Third Rock Radio can be streamed free via the TuneIn mobile app, which is available for smart phones and tablet computers through the Google Play and iTunes app stores, and from the NASA home page .
