Glenn Mahone is Vice President of Communications, Aerojet/GenCorp. He leads the division and is responsible for formulating and implementing policies and procedures designed to support the Aerojet brand and mission. This strategy includes partnering with both Aerojet and GenCorp, Aerojet’s parent company, on all matters relating to communications functions, investor relations, reputation management, crisis communication, community outreach, and strategic communications. A primary focus of his leadership emphasizes direct interfacing with aerospace media based in the Washington DC region and affiliated media representatives nationwide.
Mr. Mahone has extensive background as a senior government and business executive and advisor with extensive experience in Federal agency management, crisis communications, strategic planning, communications and media relations architecture. He is experienced in sales, marketing and personnel development, as well as on-air television and media communication.
Mr. Mahone joined the Aerojet Washington office is 2007. Prior to his current position and during a brief respite from the executive responsibilities of federal management, Mr. Mahone served as Vice President of Administrative Services for Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. In this capacity he was responsible for managing the Human Resources Department for a company of 500 employees. He provided executive management and political leadership in the acquisition and management of government contracts and systems’ applications.
Glenn was appointed NASA’s Assistant Administrator for Public Affairs and Press Secretary in January, 2002, and the agency’s Acting Chief of Strategic Communications in January 2005. In his role as Assistant Administrator for Public Affairs Mr. Mahone was the official spokesman for the agency and its senior leadership. He was responsible for managing an agency-wide staff of 350 who implemented all aspects of the agency’s external and internal communications. Mr. Mahone also served as advisor to the Administrator and Deputy Administrator on all aspects of public affairs. Mr. Mahone is credited with guiding NASA’s open response to the tragic Columbia Space Shuttle accident and the agency’s communications efforts to inform the public about the objectives of the nation’s Vision for Space Exploration: Back to the Moon and on to Mars.
Prior to joining NASA, Mr. Mahone served as the senior advisor to the Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Prior to that that he served as the commercial sales marketing manager for ADT//TYCO Inc, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Mr. Mahone has served in 3 presidential administrations; having served at NASA under Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush; and at the Department of Labor as Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Labor under President Reagan. He was Director of Coalitions for Senator Bob Dole; and prior to moving to Washington DC., from Arkansas, was Vice President & Director of Sales Training and Development for FirstSouth Savings & Loan and also served as Press Secretary and Director of Information Services to the office of the Arkansas Secretary of State. He has demonstrated extensive media talent, having served as Director of Public Affairs and Television Reporter for KTHV, TV; a CBS affiliate.
