Stand by for acceleration!
The Danish non-profit Copenhagen Suborbitals is readying its HEAT-1X-Tycho Brahe – an unpiloted sounding rocket, but a precursor to a larger rocket designed to carry a human passenger on a suborbital voyage.
The effort is based entirely on the work of sponsors and volunteers. The rocket is headed for liftoff within an August 30 – September 17 launch window.
The Hybrid Exo Atmospheric Transporter (HEAT) vehicle will rocket away outside the 12 nautical miles border zone of Denmark. The launch will be done from a barge in the Baltic Sea in a military test zone.
HEAT-1X- Tycho Brahe will take a pressurized capsule to a suborbital altitude of nearly 20 miles (30 kilometers). The booster will then separate allowing the capsule to descend, with parachutes slowing its descent to a splashdown in water.
The pressurized volume provides support for one upright standing/half-sitting person, with a full view through a polymer Plexiglas dome to experience the entire ballistic ride.
Based on the expected flight data and future test-flights, g-force loads and rocket orientation, the rocket teams expects to determine the seating construction and necessary support to ensure a safe human travel.
On the upcoming test shot, a mannequin will be in position within the capsule.
