WASHINGTON, D.C.The Coalition for Deep Space Exploration (Coalition) today announced Christen Kapavik has joined the nonprofit organization as its new Director of Strategic Alliances and Operations. A long-time Congressional staffer, Kapavik will manage overall operations for the Coalition, as well as serve as the main liaison to the organization’s 70+ members, including space industry businesses, advocacy groups, and other interested organizations.

“We are very happy to welcome Christen to our staff,” said Dr. Mary Lynne Dittmar, president and CEO of the Coalition. “She is widely respected on Capitol Hill for her ability to build relationships across diverse interests and perspectives. This skill set, coupled with inside knowledge of how Washington works, will be a tremendous asset to us as we engage in outreach and education on the importance of human space exploration, space science, the economic development of space, and the industrial base that supports and advances all of these efforts.”

Kapavik spent eight years on the Hill in various roles. From 2011-2014, she served as a legislative aide to Congressman Bill Posey (R-Fla.), and was later promoted to senior legislative assistant from 2015-2017. In this latter role, she advised Congressman Posey on health policy, defense, space, foreign affairs, veteran’s affairs and agriculture. She also managed his work on the Science, Space and Technology Committee. She began her career in 2007, spending two years as a staff assistant to Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrove (R-Colo.).

“I’m very excited to join the Coalition, and I am honored to work with Dr. Dittmar and the rest of the Coalition as we strive to articulate and advance America’s vision of space exploration and space science,” shared Kapavik.

Kapavik joins the Coalition after spending a year as director of business development and customer relations for Battle Board out of Washington, D.C. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C.
